Rural Technology Fund Awards 2009 Judith A. Sanders Memorial Scholarship

(Bowling Green, KY) -- The Board of Directors of the Rural Technology Fund have announced that Cassidy McAlpin, a 2009 Graves County High School graduate and resident of Sedalia, KY has been awarded the Judith A. Sanders Memorial Scholarship for the 2009 -2010 academic year in the amount of $500.00.

Mr. McAlpin is currently attending Murray State University and is majoring in Computer Science. He was selected to receive the JAS Memorial Scholarship based upon his exceptional responses to several essay questions designed to gauge interest and passion for a future career in computer technology. Mr. McAlpin is the first recipient of the JAS Memorial Scholarship which is an annual scholarship awarded to a graduating rural high school student pursuing further education in computer technology.

Established in 2008, the Rural Technology Fund (RTF) seeks to reduce the digital divide between rural communities and their more urban and suburban counterparts. This is done through scholarships targeted towards students living in rural communities who have a passion for computer technology and intend to pursue further education in that field.

The RTF aims to help rural students recognize the opportunity in technology careers and gain the education necessary to work in the computer industry.
